Đeo vòng làm bằng hạt hổ phách Baltic là một cách thức truyền thống trong nhiều thế kỷ nay tại Châu Âu, đặc biệt là các dân tộc sống ở vùng ven biển Baltic, nhằm giúp các bé giảm đau, sốt và các triệu chứng khó chịu khác khi mọc răng. Trong những năm gần đây, với xu thế ưa chuộng các sản phẩm tự nhiên thay thế cho các loại thuốc sử dụng hoạt chất hoá học, cách thức này đã được du nhập và phổ biến cả ở Hoa Kỳ và các nước khác ở Âu Châu.

  1. Hổ Phách là gì?

Hổ phách là nhựa thông thời tiền sử được hóa thạch trong quá trình khoảng 5 triệu năm, thường có màu vàng sáng (còn được gọi là màu nắng hoặc màu chanh). Đây là một loại đá quý có nhiều màu sắc khác nhau như da cam, đỏ (còn gọi là màu mật ong), nâu (còn gọi là màu cônhắc), đen, hiếm khi còn thấy có màu trắng.

Hổ phách chủ yếu được tìm thấy chủ yếu ở nơi có nhiều thực vật Họ Lá kim, đó là vùng Biển Baltic. Đặc biệt là có một mỏ hổ phách rất lớn được phát hiện ở Kaliningrad trong những năm gần đây. Ngoài ra, hổ phách cũng có ở một số nơi khác trên thế giới, nhưng trữ lượng không đáng kể.

2. Tác dụng đặc biệt của Hổ Phách

Từ xa xưa, ở vùng bờ biển Baltic, người ta đã dùng  như một phương tiện giảm đau, hồi phục sức khoẻ và kích thích hệ miễn dịch. Tác dụng giảm đau và chống viêm đã làm cho hổ phách trở thành một sản phẩm vi lượng đồng căn tự nhiên lý tưởng để trị bệnh cho con người, đặc biệt là trẻ em. Nhiều nguồn tài liệu cho rằng hổ phách là đá quý đầu tiên được con người sử dụng vừa làm đồ trang sức vừa chữa bệnh. Đã có nhiều huyền thoại thần bí và kỳ diệu về công dụng của loại đá quý này.

Tuy nhiên, những tính năng quý báu của hổ phách đã dần dần được khoa học làm sáng tỏ. Đầu tiên, Robert Cohom, nhà bác học tiên phong ngành vi trùng học hiện đại (giải Nobel năm 1886) đã phân tích được một loại hoạt chất trong hổ phách Baltic và chứng minh được các tác dụng tích cực của hoạt chất này lên cơ thể con người như củng cố sức khoẻ, cải thiện hệ miễn dịch, kích hoạt các quá trình năng lượng, cân bằng acid. Tới khoảng những 1930 và 1940, các chuyên gia hoá sinh học đã tiếp tục phát hiện được rằng hoạt chất nói trên chính là Acid Succinic là một loại acid amin tự nhiên có tác dụng kích hoạt sự hô hấp của tế bào, cải thiện quá trình chuyển hoá các chất bột đường, chất béo và chất đạm thành năng lượng. Trên cơ sở đó, các nghiên cứu tiếp tục sau này đã chứng minh nhiều ưu điểm nữa của hổ phách như có tính kháng khuẩn, làm giảm độ axit trong cơ thể, ảnh hưởng tích cực lên tuyến giáp, lá lách, tim, giảm khả năng ung thư do hút thuốc, giảm viêm họng, đau đầu, đau mắt, tạo sảng khoái, giảm tác động của thay đổi thời tiết, bão từ, ngăn ngừa tác dụng xấu của các thiết bị điện tử như máy tính, tivi, điện thoại di động, lò vi sóng, v.v., cải thiện sức khoẻ con người hiện đại vốn đang bị suy yếu do cuộc sống căng thẳng và các điều kiện sinh thái bất lợi. Acid succinic ngày nay đã được bào chế dưới dạng thuốc và được lưu hành trên thị trường các nước Phương Tây.

Riêng đối với trẻ em đang trong thời kỳ mọc răng, tác dụng của hổ phách được biểu hiện khá rõ ràng và cụ thể trong việc làm giảm các triệu chứng như sưng lợi, đau, nôn trớ, tiết nhiều rãi, sốt và các cảm giác khó chịu khác, giúp bé chịu đựng quá trình mọc răng một cách nhẹ nhàng mà không phải dùng đến các loại thuốc giảm đau giảm sốt vốn có nhiều tác dụng phụ không mong muốn.
